Hoopla Medals for Middle Lake Girls & Rose Valley Boys                                                                                           The final round of the 2008 SHSAA Sr. Basketball playoffs was completed on the weekend of Mar. 14 & 15 in Saskatoon.   The Rose Valley boys and Middle Lake girls both competed at Hoopla on this weekend in their respective 1A categories, and both came home with medals (bronze and silver respectively). Rose Valley boys hit the court first on Friday morning against Herbert in the Provincial Semi-Final.  Great defense by the Roadrunners held Herbert to only eight first-quarter points, but Rose Valley could not capitalize on offense, missing some key shots inside.  Herbert held an eight point advantage at the half, and maintained their cushion in recording a 55-47 victory. In the 1A boys bronze medal game, Rose Valley broke out of the gate fast, and never really looked back.  Although the final score was tight (52-48), the Roadrunners kept the opposing Fillmore team at arms length the majority of the game.  All the credit to Fillmore for a late run.  Congratulations to the Rose Valley Roadrunners, the Provincial Boys 1A Basketball bronze medalists. Middle Lake girls faced Frontier in the 1A Girls Semi-Final on Friday as well.  In a very tight game defensive game, Middle Lake managed a 17-14 halftime lead.  In the second half the tight play continued, with Middle Lake posting a 38-30 victory to advance to the Provincial final. The 1A girls gold medal game pitted the Middle Lake Avengers against perennial powerhouse Fillmore, and unfortunately for the Avengers it did not take long for Fillmore to assert their strength.  Middle Lake's outside game just wasn't clicking, and they quickly fell behind with Fillmore showing little, if any, sign of weakness.  The final score was 70-27 for Fillmore.  Congratulations to the Middle Lake Avengers, Provincial Girls 1A Basketball silver medalists.
