HCAA Sr. Girls Volleyball Teams are Gold, Gold, Gold!      It was a sweep for HCAA teams in the 1A to 3A categories at the 2008 SHSAA Girls Provincial Volleyball Championships held Nov. 14 & 15.  Holdfast's Schell School, Wakaw School, and Kelvington High all attained the title of 2008 Provincial Girls Volleyball Champions in their respective classifications. At the 1A Girls Championship, held in Mankota, Holdfast finished first in their pool with a perfect 4-0 record.  As a result, they advanced directly to the semi-final, where they defeated Midale 2-0.  The gold medal match saw Holdfast pitted against Saskatoon's CCA.  Holdfast came out on top of this match 2-0 to claim the title, their third Provincial Championship title in the last four years. Englefeld also competed at the 1A Championship.  After placing third in the round-robin, they bowed out in the quarterfinals, losing to Loreburn 2-1. The 2A Girls Championship was held in St. Walburg.  Three HCAA teams had qualified for this championship - Wakaw, Muenster, and Bruno.  Wakaw, the defending Provincial Champions, lived up to their reputation by finishing the round-robin at a perfect 4-0, sweeping the semi-final match against Edam 2-0, and capturing their second consecutive (and fourth in five years) Provincial title with a 2-1 victory over Frontier in the final. Muenster (1-3) and Bruno (0-4) did not qualify for the playoffs after the round-robin. Kelvington hosted the 3A Girls Championship, and gave the home crowd exactly what they wanted.  Finishing on top of their pool at 4-0, they faced a tough Oxbow team in the semifinal, but fought back from a first game loss to advance to the final.  In the final, Kelvington scored a convincing 2-0 victory over Rosthern Junior College, putting the exclamation mark on what has been an amazing 30 year coaching career for coach Ray Krienke.  This was Krienke's unprecendented 11th Volleyball Provincial Championship title. In the 4A Category, Lanigan and Watrous's Winston High competed for the title.  Lanigan advanced to the playoffs after a 4-0 run in the round-robin, while Watrous (2-2) just failed to advance.  Lanigan met Lumsden in the semi-final, but was defeated 2-1.  In the bronze medal match, they lost 2-0 to Dalmeny.
