Kelvington Boys Gold Again at Prov. Volleyball; Annaheim Bronze                                                                         Two more Provincial Volleyball medals were awarded to HCAA teams at the 2008 SHSAA Boys Provincial Volleyball Championships. In Tisdale, Kelvington successfully defended their title, capturing their second consecutive Provincial gold in 4A Boys. In the round robin, Kelvington had finished second at 3-1, their only defeat coming at the hands of Assiniboia in a match that went three games and was decided by only two points. In the quarterfinal, Kelvington took on Lumsden, the third place team in the opposite pool and handled them with relative ease (25-17, 25-13). In the semifinal, they faced Melville, the first place team from the opposite pool, defeating them 25-23 and 25-19. The gold medal match pitted them against the only team to defeat them in the round robin.  Kelvington prevailed 25-20, 25-20 over Assiniboia and claimed the Provincial title. At the 1A Boys Championship hosted by Annaheim and co-hosted by Lake Lenore, the host Annaheim boys won the bronze medal. Annaheim had finished third in their pool, behind eventual gold medalists Rouleau and silver medalists Goodsoil. In the quarterfinal, they faced the second place team from the opposite pool (Kincaid/Mankota) and cruised to a 25-9, 25-13 win. In the semifinal, they battled against Goodsoil, a team who had beaten them in the round-robin. Goodsoil, however, would get the best of Annaheim again in a close (25-22, 25-22) match. Annaheim then faced Mossbank in the bronze medal match, winning the match (25-14, 25-20) and claiming the bronze medal. Bellevue’s St. Isidore school also competed at the 1A Boys Provincials, but just missed the playoffs as a result of a tie-breaker involving two other teams. One other HCAA team competed at Boys Volleyball Provincials. Wakaw finished second in their pool at the 3A Boys Championship, but lost 2-1 to Langenburg in the quarterfinal. Teams from the Horizon Central Athletic Association came away with an amazing four (out of a possible eight) Provincial gold medals (HZSD/HCAA has no 5A schools) as well as a bronze medal. This included a “double” for Kelvington, whose girls won the 3A gold and boys won the 4A gold. We are very proud of the time, efforts, and accomplishments of our student-athletes and the time and dedication to excellence provided by their coaches.
